Prioritising What Matters

How apt that a very dramatic event for me and my family fell during April which was stress awareness month”! Rubie, our beloved, playful Havanese, whom many of you know, fell suddenly and seriously ill with canine parvovirus, a highly contagious and deadly, gastrointestinal illness. Like most pet owners, I didn’t know our annual boosters couldn’t be 100% effective, but with a 91% mortality rate (higher for young, old, compromised and smaller dogs), being vaccinated against parvovirus makes the difference between life and death.

Huge Thanks

Rubie means the world to me and my two sons, so I cannot express enough gratitude to Justina and the Bay Vets team for saving her life. A huge thanks also to the Westmorland Gazette, Lancaster Guardian, Morecambe Visitor and Beyond Radio for helping spread the message far and wide.

My Message

My message is to keep up with your dog’s vaccinations, and get to a vet as soon as you spot symptoms like lethargy, sickness, diarrhoea and blood in faeces: swift treatment is essential.

Avoiding Type 2 Diabetes

Prevention is always better than cure- especially as diabetes can only be managed, not cured. Type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune condition, currently can’t be prevented, but adopting simple healthy lifestyle changes can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by up to 50%. Eating more healthily, losing weight if needed, and being active supports your body effectively managing blood sugar levels, preventinginsulin resistance, which can lead to type 2 diabetes. There’s lots of information, help and support available at reputable sites like www.diabetes.org.uk and www.nhs.uk/conditions/diabetes/.

Finally, due to a delay from the utilities companies we won’t be practising from Carnforth Central just yet. So, for the foreseeable, call me on 07725 300290 to make an appointment which will take place at Nether Kellet.

Thanks

All best, Carol x
