Peak Season for Kick-Abouts

Even though the domestic football season has wrapped up, summer is the peak season for neighbourhood football, whether that’s local leagues, park kick-abouts or pub teams. It may be  that you’re a committed couch potato looking forward to all the Euros excitement- well, until we get knocked out!

Women’s Football

It’s fantastic that the rising profile of women’s football is encouraging more girls into the game (and often showing the lads how it’s done), but sorry ladies, this blog is for the boys- because they’re generally more rubbish at taking care of their feet. (I knew you’d like that free kick!)

Sweaty Feet?

Reasons can include “out of sight, out of mind”, with men’s feet more often hidden in socks and boots,or the modern association of foot care with beauty treatments. So add in the sweaty battering ofsummer sports like football, and it’s no surprise problems can follow.

Beating Varrucas

Beating verrucas!

What are verrucas? White-coloured warts with black central dots on the soles of feet that most people will have at some point (so check yours, as well as the kids’!)

Do I need to treat them? Left alone, they can squat for months or years, sometimes causing discomfort, and they are very infectious, so get rid- don’t spread!

How can I banish them? Your chiropodist or pharmacist can supply the appropriate creams, plasters and sprays. Follow the instructions- it can take up to 3 months.

And how to stop them returning? Prevention is better than cure, so always follow a good foot hygiene routine, check regularly, avoid sharing towels, flannels, shoes and socks with other people.

However busy, take a moment to enjoy autumn’s colours and kick some leaves about!
