Don’t Make Feet a Marathon

The London Marathon is coming up fast; if any readers are topping up your training, good luck- and don’t forget to enjoy it! If you’re inspired, remember that even jogging can give your feet a battering. To avoid a limp to the chiropodists, get off the starting blocks with a few simple tips:

Best Shoe Forward

21st-century sports shoe design has come on in leaps and bounds; your old gym or squash shoes simply will not do. Get a proper fitting for the type of running you’re tackling at a specialist shop; chiropodists can also help with sizing, fitting, supportive inserts and insoles. And remember, experts recommend replacing running shoes every 300-500 miles.

Avoid Trip Hazards

Warm-up stretches and out of the door, here’s a sprint through some common running ailments and how to avoid them (take well-fitting shoes, as above, as a given for every condition!):

What’s Important?

When something like this happens, it puts into perspective what’s important in life. As a solo parent, I work three days a week so I can give 100% my best to both my patients and my boys. It’s also why I’m not doing home visits at the moment, allowing me more time in clinic. It took a bit for me to embrace technology, but my automated booking system prevents interrupted clinic time, and makes it simple for you to secure a slot.

Take Care of You

Chiropody isn’t just about feet; chatting during appointments can cover a wealth of issues (and giggles!). I know many people are juggling so much at the moment, so don’t lose sight of what’s important: your physical and mental health, your family, and those you hold dear- there’s no point in endlessly running to stand still. After our unintentional moment of fame, thank you to everyone who sent texts, emails and messages asking after Rubie- she’s happily snoozing on my lap as I type. Just as people are so kind to others, take a moment to be kind to yourself, too, and take care,

Carol.
