Painful conditions like chronic ingrown toenails which do not respond to regular treatment may require surgery to remove all or part of the toenail. Partial nail avulsion (removal), is effective in 98% of cases. If required, total nail avulsion is completely safe, and will leave you with healthy skin and a slight, non-painful indentation where your nail used to be.
